Student Spotlight: George Neimeyer

Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, George always had a love for science and engineering. Even though his high school didn’t have a strong STEM program, he stayed curious and driven, eventually finding his place in mechanical engineering. George says he enjoys figuring out how the world works and then building something with that knowledge. Though some of his relatives are engineers, he is the first in his immediate family to pursue a degree in it. Outside of class, George enjoys baking (especially cookies), studying history, and diving into big engineering challenges.

George is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at Penn State. While he hasn’t yet joined a hands-on project team due to his busy course and research schedule, he regularly works with project team members to brainstorm ideas and enjoys learning from the guest speakers they bring in.

This summer, George is focused on continuing his simulations and preparing his bellows designs for advanced 3D printing using powder bed fusion. He’s especially interested in applying his research to defense-related systems and hopes to work with the Department of Defense or a government contractor after graduation. He values the hands-on learning PIPELINE offers and looks forward to building more professional connections and exploring long-term engineering career paths.
