Paul Mittan is a Professor of Practice and the Director of the Engineering Leadership Development program at Pennsylvania State University, where he is responsible for curriculum and research pertaining to technical leadership, multidisciplinary design, and project management. Prior to joining Penn State, Paul served for more than 15 years in design innovation and multidisciplinary technical leadership roles at Lockheed Martin Corporation. His responsibilities encompassed hardware and software development, systems design and integration, and technical leadership. At Lockheed Martin, Paul began his career as a software engineer supporting the deployment of parcel handling systems for the U.S. Postal Service. He also served as a software engineer, systems engineer, and deputy program manager for U.S. Navy development programs supporting the MH-60S and MH-60R platforms. Paul entered technical leadership as a functional manager for a department of early career engineering professionals in mechanical, electrical, computer, and software engineering. Later, Paul became a functional manager for a digital design team, where he managed engineers and technicians responsible for the development, integration, and production of digital electronic assemblies used in various applications. Paul was also responsible for technical workforce development and strategic outreach, where he worked closely with external strategic partners on research and talent pipeline. Paul is an active member of the American Society for Engineering Education and serves as a director on the College Industry Partnership Division board.
